Being able to accept Medicaid for doula services is a game-changer for families who may not otherwise have access to this vital support.
Doulas provide continuous physical, emotional, and informational care during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, leading to better health outcomes for both parent and baby.Access to doula care is especially crucial in addressing maternal and infant mortality rates, which disproportionately affect Black women. Black women are three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women, according to the CDC. Additionally, Black infants have a more than two times higher risk of dying before their first birthday compared to white infants. These disparities stem from systemic barriers, including racial bias in healthcare, lack of adequate prenatal care, and higher stress levels due to social determinants of health.
Studies show that having a doula can reduce the risk of cesarean birth by 39%, lower the likelihood of preterm birth by 22%, and increase breastfeeding initiation and duration. By accepting Medicaid, I am helping to break down financial barriers, ensuring that all families—regardless of income—can benefit from continuous, culturally competent support.
Every birthing person deserves to feel heard, respected, and supported throughout their journey. Expanding access to doulas is a proven way to save lives, improve birth experiences, and create healthier beginnings for families

Latrina has been the best IBCLC I could ever imagine having on my side! She just has something special to her that makes me feel normal and even comfortable while navigating my lactation challenges (something I was really down about). The comfort she brings is not common even amongst top tier professionals, it’s her unique take on client care and her delightful personality that somehow makes a hard task feel doable and a struggling mother feel adequate.
She’s incredibly knowledgeable and has dived so deep into the world of lactation that her education goes far passed what the common person would even consider possible. I would hands down recommend anybody who is lactating or planning on lactating see her, no matter what the problem (or lack of) is, she will meet you where your at and help educate and elevate you to an even better position. She accepts a wide range of insurances which helps a family like mine immensely. Among all of the things I’ve done in pregnancy and postpartum, meeting Latrina had been the best.
